CARRIER MILLS, Ill. - A Carrier Mills man lost his life last night after a self-inflicted gunshot wound incident Sunday afternoon.
The man, whose name is being withheld this morning pending notification of relatives, was in his mid-50s. Details are otherwise few; authorities have confirmed, however, that the gunshot wound was self-inflicted and that there is no reason otherwise for the public to be concerned about an incident of foul play involving another person.
Reports indicate that a helicopter landed at a location in Carrier Mills flew the man away from the scene, all of this occurring between 3 and 4 p.m. yesterday (Sunday, October 2). Multiple agencies were involved in the emergency response, according to officials with whom we've communicated. The gentleman was alive when he was taken from the scene to a trauma center outside the area, but died later of the wound, this late last night.
When authorities release the name, we'll update. Be watching.
