GALLATIN/SALINE COs., Ill. - Authorities have a Friday-morning single-vehicle crash under investigation, but it appears it's another case of overcorrection...which prompts a lot of people to think it might've been due to texting.
No one is saying that, however; their info stops at "overcorrection."
Officials said the accident occurred early Friday, October 28, when a 17-year-old female driver (of Norris City and who remains unidentified by authorities due to her age) of a white 1995 Jeep Cherokee was southbound on U.S. 45 near the Saline-Gallatin County line. The Jeep is believed to have run off the roadway, overcorrected and then left the other side of the road, consequently striking a tree.
The 17-year-old driver had to be extricated from the wreckage. She was flown out by helicopter to St. Mary's in Evansville for treatment of what's described as serious injuries.
A 19-year-old passenger, Ashley Frost, also of Norris City, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado for treatment.
Authorities continue to investigate; we'll post updates as they become available.
