Photo mistake leads to rant about sex offense charge

Daniel RAY Sherfield, at left, and Daniel L. Sherfield, apparently father and son, if Dnine Sherf’s ranting (shown here) is any indication.

SALINE CO. – A photo error in the last issue (April 2017) illustrated the rampant “all in the family” level of criminality many in southern Illinois have to deal with, as well as the level to which some people will go to convince those who actually use their brains that something that did happen didn’t.

The whole thing goes back to the fact that there are two Daniel Sherfields in Saline County, one age 48, one age 25. The elder ostensibly resides in Harrisburg, the younger, ostensibly Carrier Mills; the word “ostensibly” placed here because these are the most recent addresses available on each.

There is no “junior” or “senior” added to either name in any court documents. The only distinction is that the elder is a “Daniel R.” and the younger is at times a “Daniel L.” (“at times” used here because not all court documents bear a middle initial).

The elder, as it turns out, was the subject of a report in the April edition regarding two sex offense charges, filed March 22 in Saline County.

The younger, however, was the mugshot that was sent when Disclosure submitted a Freedom of Information Act request (FOIA) to Saline County Jail officials, who manage the mugshots. That mugshot was subsequently placed in the early April issue with the article about the elder Sherfield being charged with sex offenses.

However, when the paper was first released, the warrant on the elder Sherfield hadn’t been served; ergo, the charges were ostensibly “news” to the clan.

That prompted the younger (and apparently more vapid) of the two Sherfields to lash out on April 5; believing he was posting to Disclosure’s Facebook page (not knowing that settings prevent people from just errantly posting trash on the page), he griped about the situation in the foul-mouthed

language inherent with the lower-end denizens of Saline, as shown here.

However, the younger Sherfield, who goes by the inexplicable “Dnine Sherf” on his own page, was ill-informed when it came to the assertion of his dad not being charged with a crime.

Daniel Ray Sherfield, 48, sporting a recent address of 10 East Homer Street No. 4 in Harrisburg, was indeed charged with two counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual abuse on March 22, this after alleged acts dating back to February 15 which, as explained in the April issue, involved sexual conduct with a female identified only by initials as DNR, with DNR being only 15 years of age.

The younger, more vapid Sherfield may have believed there were no such charges because on Saline’s judici page (which shows court activity listed by cases), until a warrant is served, the charge remains off the page. Once the warrant is served, the charge shows up. That doesn’t mean the physical file isn’t available at the courthouse; it is, and that’s how Disclosure staff obtained the material in advance of production of the April paper. But that wasn’t enough for the little Sherfield, whose butthurtitis was made evident by the mistaken submission of a mugshot. His father is indeed charged with sex offenses.

Disclosure apologizes for the mistake, and is reissuing the article with the correct information as you see here.

However, of interest is the bizarre behavior surrounding the Sherfields – both of them – in years past.

The elder Sherfield, whom authorities have in the past said to only be able to read and write at about a third grade level, was in 2009 allegedly allowing a then-13-year-old female child in the home to skip school in Carrier Mills, along with a handful of other families who resided on the same street/in the same vicinity (Washington Street and its surrounds) at the time. As it turned out, the then-17-year-old “Danny” Sherfield (now known as Dnine) was living with a much older gal residing on the street, Tammi Lynn Collins, then 24. Collins later became known as “Syrup Girl” owing to a party being held in her house wherein adults and children were in attendance. Collins had conducted a fame of Truth or Dare with the kids, and at one point, had poured chocolate syrup on her bared breasts and asked one of the boys present (age 12) to lick it off her. That was reported, and she was charged and is now on the sex offender list.

Later, Shannon Burton, another person in the immediate vicinity Washington Street and whose child was constantly truant, was caught having sex with a 13-year-old boy, also constantly truant. She too was charged and is now a regular on the sex offender list.

So it’s not such a stretch that there might be some kind of sex offense allegation against anyone formerly involved in this bunch.

The elder Sherfield is set for a preliminary hearing on the sex charges May 4.

The younger Sherfield has apparently gotten past his butthurtitis and has been busy posing for selfies on Facebook with a bizarre-looking girlfriend, apparently having moved on from Syrup Girl.
