SALINE CO., Ill. - A January 29th arrest report in which a man was taken into custody for Arson in Galatia left out an important factor: The suspect's fashionable garments.
According to those who observed the situation go down at about 11 a.m. on Monday, January 29 at 755 Rileyville Road, the Galatia Fire Department was called to the residence when smoke was seen coming out of it.
What was reported as a "structure fire" didn't turn out to be exactly that: Instead, there was a squatter inside the home, which was otherwise uninhabited. Reports indicate that the squatter was trying to "smoke out" the cops, who had apparently been called to the residence to check things out on a trespassing complaint.
The man - Shadrach Wiseman, 34 - allegedly set fire to the carpet in the living room of the house, but that fire had the exact opposite effect, and instead of sending the cops running, it brought the fire department to the scene.
The fire was put out quickly, and Wiseman was taken into custody...while wearing a dress with slits up to the thighs on both legs, with a bra on underneath, natch. To accompany his handcuffs, he was wearing an elegant pearl bracelet. He was, said witnesses, not wearing pantyhose; it was unclear what shoes he'd opted for his haute couture. It was also unclear whether or not he had a matching string of pearls as a necklace to go with the bracelet, as he was wearing several layers of shirts atop the dress.
It was unknown whether he had on any makeup, as the soot from the fire kind of obscured that aspect.
When the house was examined post-fire, it was discovered that Wiseman had made the house his own: He'd decorated a room with his wigs, makeup, blonde-haired baby doll, and what was termed a "sex pillow," which had clothing on it, and was stuffed in the right spots for breasts...and there was an open zipper on the pants.
As Wiseman was walked out to the waiting squad car, he left a purse behind in the house. Turned out, there was another purse in his truck. There was no indication if either one of them bore his wallet with ID.
Nevertheless, he was taken to the Saline County detention center and booked on arresting charges of Arson, Criminal Trespass to Residence, Criminal Damage to Property, and Burglary.
Wiseman has a troubled criminal history in Saline dating back 16 years with criminal convictions of Battery, Theft, Criminal Trespass (several of these), and felony Criminal Damage to Government Property. The probation on that last one only just terminated in November 2017.
Wiseman made first appearance on Wednesday and, because of Bond Reform, his bond was set at $1,000. As of Thursday, however, he remained in the Saline County Detention Center.
