SALINE CO.— Saline County was abuzz Tuesday, December 3 when word began leaking out that another series of Grand Jury indictments had been released and lawmen were busy rounding up the 20 suspects named.
Those indicted included 19-year-old Jeremiah Watson, currently residing in the Illinois Youth Center (ICY) 1201 West Poplar St., Harrisburg, who faces one count of Aggravated Battery after authorities say on September 25, he bit the hand of correctional institution employee Michael F. Winters.
That indictment came with a $2,000 cash bond.
Rhett Charles Sherwin, 24, of 10 North Water St., Harrisburg, has been indicted in two separate cases.
In the first case Sherwin faces a two-count indictment of Unlawful Use of Weapon for allegedly, on Sept. 23, selling a Remington Model 1100 sawed off shotgun to a confidential source with one or more of the barrels less than 18 inches and one count of Unlawful Sale of Firearms for not withholding the Remington 1100 for at least 72 hours after an application for its purchase had been made by a confidential source (CS).
The case comes with a cash bond of $1,500.
In the second case Sherwin faces one count of Unlawful Sale of Firearms for allegedly on Sept. 30 delivering a Mauser 8MM rifle to a CS incidental to the sale of the rifle without waiting the 72 hours after application had been made by the CS.
The second case comes with a $1,000 cash bond.
Lendall R. Trammel, 44, of 1804 Park Lane, Harrisburg, faces a two-count indictment alleging that on June 22 he committed Aggravated Battery when while at Wooded Hills Bar & Grill, a public place of accommodation, he shoved Les Lind to the ground.
The second count alleges Criminal Damage to Property more than $300 identified as a 2000 Chevrolet, located at 217 East Poplar St., Harrisburg, belonging to Les Lind.
Cash bond in that case has been set at $1,000.
Jeffrey Michael Nolen, 50, of 211 McIlrath St., Harrisburg has been indicted on one count of Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance for allegedly delivering hydrocodone to a CS on October 9.
A $2,000 cash bond has been set in that case.
Nolen’s past felony convictions include Misuse of Credit Card in 2002; Theft in 2006; Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine less than five grams, Financial Exploitation of an Elderly/Disabled Person and two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (prescription medication) in 2011.
Tonya L. Sherwin, 46, faces a one-count indictment of Unlawful Delivery of Controlled Substance With 1,000 ft. of the Real Property Comprising a Public Park.
Authorities say on Sept. 23, she knowingly delivered the pain killer carisoprodol (somas) within 1,000 feet of the Harrisburg City Park Gaskin City Park Complex, located on Felton Street, Harrisburg.
A $2,000 cash bond has been set in that case.
Sherwin was convicted of felony Retail Theft in 2010.
Joseph Todd Mitchell, 37, of Rte. 2, Box 290, McLeansboro, was indicted on one count of Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance within 1,000 Feet of the First Baptist Church of Muddy on August 19, 2013, where it’s alleged that he delivered hydrocodone to a CS.
Cash bond in the case has been set at $2,000.
Tabitha Renee Wilkins, 31, 707 North Main St., Carrier Mills, was indicted in three separate cases.
The first alleges that on Sept. 6, she committed the offense of Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance (hydrocodone) to a CS; the second alleges she committed the offense of Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance within 1,000 feet of a School when on Sept. 23, she delivered hydrocodone to a CS within 1,000 ft. of Carrier Mills Grade School, located on Main Street, Carrier Mills.
In the third case the indictment alleges she delivered more hydrocodone to a CS near the same school on October 25.
Cash bond for all three cases amounts to $5,000.
Miles Travis McGhee, 29, of 415 Walnut St., Harrisburg, faces a single count indictment of Unlawful Possession of Meth Manufacturing Materials (Coleman camping fuel, acid, air line tubing and an instant cold pack containing ammonium nitrate) with intent to use to make meth on Aug. 6, 2013.
A $2,500 cash bond has been set in the case.
James Matthew McEwan, 30, of 2082 West Barnett Road, Harrisburg, has been indicted in two separate cases, both alleging he committed the offense of Unlawful Delivery of Cannabis, the first case on December 5 for 10-30 grams and the second on Dec. 18 for 30-500 grams.
A $1,000 cash bond has been set in each case.
McEwan’s past felony convicts include Misuse of Credit Card in 2002; Theft in 2003; Forgery in 2005.
In addition to his two recent drug charges, McEwan has two pending cases charging him with Driving Revoked in both.
Michael McEwan, 53, of 400 East Dayton St., Harrisburg, was indicted in two separate cases the first on one count each of Unlawful Delivery of Cannabis less than 2.5 and Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance 20 tablets of hydrocodone to a CS.
In the second case McEwan was indicted on one count of Unlawful Delivery of Cannabis 10-30 grams to a CS.
Cash bond total for both cases was set at $2,000.
Christopher Lee Riden, 30, of 1405 Reed St., Eldorado, was indicted in two separate cases, both for Unlawful Delivery of Controlled Substance identified as 16 tablets of phentermine, a prescription stimulant commonly used for weight loss.
Authorities say the controlled substances were delivered to CSs on Jan 8, 2013, and again on February 6.
Cash bond in both cases amounts to $2,000.
Donald J. Wilkins, 54, of 707 North Main St., Carrier Mills, was indicted in three separate cases.
In all three cases he is charged with Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance (alprazolam) Within 1,000 Feet of a School (Carrier Mills Grade School).
Wilkins is accused of delivering the pills to a CS on Sept. 23, Oct. 23 and again on Oct. 25.
A total cash bond for all three cases amounts to $6,000.
Wilkins’ past felony convicts include Driving Under the Influence in 2011.
He also has a pending case from July of this year in which he is charged with Aggravated Battery of a Child under the age of 13 years.
Shannon M. Moss, 31, of 211 McIlrath St., Harrisburg, faces indictment in two separate cases.
In both she faces one count each of Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance.
The first alleges she delivered oxycodone and the second hydrocodone, both to a CS.
Her cash bond amounts to $4,000 for both cases.
Luke Glenn Batson, 25, of 2520 North America Rd., Galatia, has been indicted on one count of Unlawful Delivery of Cannabis more than 10 grams not more than 30 alleging he delivered to a CS on Dec. 18.
Theodore Long, 53, of 11344 Petroff Rd., Benton, has been indicted on one count of Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance (heroin) and Unlawful Sale of Firearms, a North American Arms .22 cal pistol for not waiting the 72 required after application for purchase has been made.
Both transactions are said to have taken place between Long and a CS on Oct. 15.
Cash bond in the case has been set at $2,000.
Cory Jeffery Starns, 19, of 825 North Calhoun St., Equality, has been indicted on a charge of Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance (hydrocodone) Within 1,000 Feet of Bible Baptist Church, located at 606 West Church St., Harrisburg, to a CS on Sept. 18, 2013.
Cash bond in the case has been set at $2,000.
Alan Wayne Brown, 62, of 923 West Lillie St., Harrisburg, has been indicted in two separate cases.
Both charge him with one count of Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance (morphine) Within 1,000 Feet of Harrisburg Township Park District, located one block south of Ill. Rte. 13 West, Harrisburg.
Authorities say that on June 26, 2013, and July 10, 2013, Brown delivered to a CS.
Total cash bond for both cases has been set at $5,000.
Brown’s past felony convictions include Unlawful Manufacture/Delivery of Cannabis 30-500 grams, Unlawful Possession of Cannabis 30-500 grams in 1989; and Bad Check in 1994.
Brown also has outstanding charges in Saline County including three counts of Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance (prescription medication).
Samantha R. Wheatley, 19, of Rural Rte. 1, Box 152 East, Macedonia, has been indicted on one charge of Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance (heroin) to a CS, Within 1,000 Feet of East Side Intermediate School, located at 315 Church St., Harrisburg, on Sept. 30, 2013.
Cash bond in the case has been set at $2,500.
Chase F. Soulliere, 21, of 723 West Robinson St., Harrisburg, has been indicted in two separate cases.
The first charges Soulliere with one count of Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance (hydrocodone) to a CS, Within 1,000 Feet of Dorrisville Social Brethren Church on Land Street in Harrisburg on Sept. 18, 2013.
In the second case he is charged with Unlawful Delivery of Cannabis to a CS more than 10 but less than 30 grams on Sept. 10, 2013.
A $3,000 cash bond has been set for both cases.
Jashawn J. Tate, 20, of 508 Washington St., Carrier Mills, was indicted on one count of Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance (dextroamphetamine, use in the treatment of attention deficit disorder) to a CS, Within 1,000 Feet of the Church of God in Carrier Mills, on Sept. 12, 2013.
Cash bond in the case has ben set at $2,500.
The drug indictments were made possible by the efforts of agents on the Southern Illinois Drug Task Force represented in the grand jury by Illinois State Police Inspector Glenn Rountree and Illinois State Police Inspector David Blazier.
Other criminal indictments were due to the efforts of Harrisburg Detective Curt Hustedde.
