Screen Shot 2013-12-16 at 2.13.26 PMHARRISBURG— A pair of Smocks kept city crime fighters busy toward the end of November in Harrisburg.

The first involves a ruckus that took place at a trailer, which landed one man behind bars after authorities were called to investigate the commotion.

On November 23 at 1:31 a.m. Harrisburg officers Detective Curt Hustedde and Kenny Shires responded to West Park St., Harrisburg, on a disturbance call.

When the officers arrived they spoke with Brad Reed who told them his neighbor, Lenard A. Smock, 53, of 28 West Park St., Harrisburg, was in his trailer yelling.

Reed said he also heard what sounded like banging on the walls.

He told officers the noise was loud and happened frequently.

While Det. Hustedde was talking to Reed he said he heard what sounded like banging on the wall.

Hustedde and Shires walked over to the back door of the trailer.

“I could hear a male yelling and screaming for someone to shut up,” Hustedde said.

The officers listened for a bit and knocked on the door.

“A male voice came from behind the door saying he was not going to open the door and if it is the police to get off his property,” Hustedde said.

When Hustedde ordered the man to open the door he refused.

However, when Shires told him to open the door he did and was told by Shires that he was under arrest.

That’s about the time Lenard Smock took off running back into the trailer.

Officers caught up with him in the kitchen where they found him with raised hands holding a two-liter bottle containing a liquid.

“It looked as if he were going to throw the liquid onto officer Shires so I deployed my TASER and Smock was subdued to the ground,” Hustedde said.

Once on the ground, Smock offered no further resistance to officers.

When searched authorities found a plastic bag that contained what looked like coffee filters with a white powdery substance, which later tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine, on them as well as a hypodermic syringe in his pocket.

Smock was formally charged with one count each of Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine less than five grams, Unlawful Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe and Disorderly Conduct.

Smock was busted in 2011 and charged with one count each of Unlawful Methamphetamine Manufacture less than 15 grams, Unlawful Use of a Vehicle for Methamphetamine Trafficking and Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine less than Five Grams. Those charges were dismissed.

He was convicted in a plea agreement January 31 on one count of Retail Theft in return for the dismissal of Obstruction of Justice and Unlawful Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe and sentenced to 24 months probation and ordered to pay $3,252 in fines and fees of which he still owes $3,177.

Smock just finished 30 days in the county jail after September a conviction for Disorderly Conduct.

He still owes $722 in fines and fees from that case.

Smock, who has in the past gone by numerous and varied names including “Buddy” Smock, also happens to be a registered sex offender with a conviction in Texas dating back to the 90s, wherein he had an 11-year-old victim in a sex assault that he perpetrated when he was 37.

Cash bond in the current case has been set at $1,500

Another Smock

The next day, in what authorities say is an unrelated case, another Smock was charged with a felony.

According to information filed in the case, Kevin D. Smock, 45, of 201 North Granger, Harrisburg has been charged with one count of Theft over $500.

The charging documents alleges that on Nov. 24, Kevin Smock knowingly exerted unauthorized control over property of Carl N. Russell identified as one Bear Carnage compound bow with accessories identified as one Planno hard bow case, one quiver and several arrows.

Smock has several other pending charges in Saline County including a case filed May 22, in which he faces one count each of Driving Revoked or Suspended and Unlawful Use of a Black-Jack/Knife.

He was also charged May 29 in a separate case with Burglary and Theft.

Cash bond on his most recent charges has been set at $1,000.
