SALINE CO.— An Eldorado man has been charged with three counts of Domestic Battery and one count of Driving Suspended after police say he got drunk and smacked his girlfriend after she called him a “nigger.”
According to police reports, on May 3, officer Nathan Moore spoke with Elizabeth Rector, who informed him that she had been camping at Jackson Falls with her boyfriend, Derrick D. Everett, 43, of Locust Street in Eldorado, whom she had been dating off and on for about three years.
Rector said that Everett had started drinking that morning when they got up and he became obnoxious and so they started back to Eldorado.
She said that Everett was drinking whiskey from a can and when he wasn’t looking she threw it out of the van they were in so he couldn’t drink anymore.
Rector said once Everett realized what she had done he became angry and the two started to argue and he began banging on the pair of vice grips that were mounted on the steering column in place of a missing gear shifter.
She said at one point Everett knocked the vice grips into the reverse position and they eventually coasted into the Legence Bank parking lot on Rte. 45 near the Edward Jones office.
Once stopped, Rector said, they argued and she informed Everett that she was going to call a friend to come and pick her up.
She said he got mad, believed she had called 911 and was threatening to leave.
Rector said she told him that if he did she would contact 911 and inform them he was drunk and driving without a license.
That’s about the time she said he got out of the car, grabbed her phone and threw it to the ground.
When she picked it up and started walking off she said he got back in the van, pulled in front of her and started grabbing for the phone yanking on her other hand.
That’s about the time she said she called Everett a “nigger.”
And that’s about the time she said he smacked her in the head and told her never to say that again.
She claims Everett pushed her several times until her friend showed up and she left.
Everett, a single father of five, was booked into the county jail on $1,000 cash bond.
