SALINE CO.— One of the area’s more multi-county crims appears to have battered his way back into the headlines, but this time he appears to have brought a significant other with him.
Danny Michael Gibbs, 32, of the 200 block of State St., Galatia, has been charged with Domestic Battery after authorities say on May 28 he caused bodily harm to family member Tammy Jo Martinez, 22, when he pushed Tammy down, causing her to cut her arm.
If convicted, Gibbs could face an enhanced sentence because he was convicted of domestic battery March 22, 2004.
But Gibbs didn’t go to jail alone.
Ms. Martinez was also charged with Domestic Battery after authorities said she dealt out her own version of violence—when she scratched Gibbs’ shoulder.
And at the time of her arrest, she was serving a two-year probation sentence handed her February 20, 2015 after she was convicted of, well… Domestic Battery and Resisting a Peace Officer.
And so she too faces an enhanced sentence if convicted.
Beating on other people isn’t Gibbs’ only claim to criminal fame.
He seems to excel at driving drunk, earning a July 25, 2005 conviction for same for which he was sentenced to two years’ probation
His multiple convictions include one July 20, 2006 for Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia for which he was sentenced to 62 days in a county cage and 12 months probation.
In 2010 he narrowly escaped convictions on weapons charges.
He earned himself another felony January 23, 2015 when he was convicted of two counts of Driving Revoked for which he was sentenced to 18 months probation and ordered to pay $7,647 in fines and fees, of which he still owes $7,287.
Gibbs was taken into custody June 11 but released on a $10,000 recognizance bond because of incisions he had from a recent surgery.
What kind of surgery is unknown and rumors it was a surgical procedure to remove his head from his anus have not been confirmed.
Round 2
But that wasn’t the end of the violence between Martinez and Gibbs.
Illinois State Trooper Brett Lane was called back to the unhappy home of Gibbs and Martinez June 3.
When trooper Lane arrived in response to yet another domestic battery call he spoke with Gibbs, who said he had been in an argument with Martinez and that she attacked him scratching his face, neck and chest and even caused some injury to Gibbs’ surgical site, wherever that was.
Trooper Lane observed and photographed visible injuries on Gibbs’ body consistent him being scratched as he had said.
Martinez claimed that Gibbs had picked her up by the throat and slammed her against a refrigerator causing damage to her head.
Trooper lane noted in his report that he saw no visible injuries on Martinez.
Gibbs told Lane the argument was over some xanax that he believed Martinez had stolen from Jamie McIntosh, 21, from Equality.
And that’s about the time Tammy was carted off to the county jail, leaving Gibbs behind to continue to recover from his surgery and scratches.
It is unclear how long the single mother of one will keep her job at the Galatia Dollar General Store if she’s sitting in jail.
Cash bond in Martinez’ latest case was set at $500.
