SALINE CO., Ill. - A two-vehicle accident on Illinois Route 13 east of Harrisburg resulted in a rollover that sent one man to a trauma center outside of the area Monday.
Saline County Sheriff Keith Brown advised on Tuesday that the wreck occurred at about 5:24 p.m., Monday, December 8, not quite to the area of Southeastern Illinois College.
At that time, a pickup collided with a tractor that was traveling on Route 13 outside of Harrisburg toward Gallatin County. Brown said that the pickup struck the tractor in the rear; the tractor operator had seen a potential accident coming and was moving to the right, but that movement actually was what caused the truck, when it struck the tractor, to hit it in such an angle that the tractor overturned.
A source from Gallatin County advised that Lawler was driving the township tractor back from Harrisburg when he was "hit from behind and the tractor was wiped out." This source said "he was life-flighted to Barnes with lots of broken bones."
Brown said Tuesday that the wheels of the tractor were locked up as of Monday night and that it wasn't removed from the scene until Tuesday morning.
