SALINE CO. – A local farmer in Harrisburg appears to be a little miffed at the city’s detective over some destroyed soybeans.
Lewis Wintizer, of Lindale Road, Harrisburg, filed a Small Claims case against Curt Hustedde on December 2, 2015, claiming that Hustedde is indebted to Wintizer in the sum of $252.
In his filing, Wintizer says that Hustedded incurred this debt when he “mowed down” a “half-acre of soybeans,” giving as a calculation of the amount “60 percent of 40 bushels at $10.50 per bushel” equaling $252.
Wintizer is asking for this amount along with the costs of the suit.
There was no indication of what the circumstances were that Hustedde allegedly “mowed down” the beans; whether it was a police incident whereby a cruiser (or other such vehicle) was driven into/through a field, or whether Hustedde is just careless on his riding lawnmower and took down a strip by accident.
Whatever the case, the claim was filed and Hustedde was issued a Small Claims summons, ordering him to appear in court on the day after deadline for this issue, Dec. 14.
