Teen plays dangerous game with gun

SALINE CO.— At approximately 4:57 a.m. on July 21, Harrisburg officer Nick Keltner was dispatched on a call from Doug Clevenger to the Poplar Street Huck’s in Harrisburg on a report that the front door to the business was open.

Upon arrival Keltner found the door had been shattered and had a gaping hole at about eye level.

Clevenger told Keltner that he had not gone into the store.

Shortly thereafter police chief James “Whipper” Johnson arrived on scene with deputy Craig Williams.

The lawmen were lead into a back room by Clevenger, who showed them video surveillance footage from about 1:20 a.m. which showed two white males walking in front of the store, one wearing a dark blue jersey with the number 44 on both front and back and a pair of shorts.

A skinnier white male was also observed wearing a maroon basketball jersey sporting the number 23.Screen Shot 2016-08-15 at 4.41.40 PM

In the footage both men were seen throwing rocks at the door but it was #44 who is shown ultimately punching a hole in the glass door.

At that time #23 is shown using a towel to cover the broken glass as he reaches through the hole and unlocks the door from the inside.

Both men are then seen running into the store; #23 is shown grabbing Newport cigarettes and possibly some eyewear, while #44 grabbed items later identified as beer and hair products.

The video was taken into evidence.

Later that night, at approximately 6:50 p.m. Keltner was informed that a juvenile, who had been reported missing, had been located and was seated in one of the interview rooms in the police department.

When Keltner looked in the interview room he recognized the juvenile as one of the white males in the Huck’s footage.

The juvenile was identified as Christopher N. Chambers.

When Christopher’s mother was brought in and he was read his rights, he informed officers that the only thing he took from Huck’s was a carton of cigarettes.

When asked what his buddy’s name was, Chambers initially said his name was “Ice.”

Later Chambers admitted his partner’s name was Nathan and that he could be found either at an abandoned house behind Casey’s at 116 West Church St., Harrisburg.

Chambers also informed police the stolen items were located in the first room on the left in the abandoned house.

When Sgt. David Morris and Dep. Lindsay Agin checked out the location they found a white male wearing a jersey with the number 44 on it.

He was identified as Nathan M. Sill, 35, of Golconda.

The stolen items were located and found to be a six-pack of Busch beer, multiple packs of Newport cigarettes and multiple bottles of hair products.

When questioned the unmarried, unemployed, disabled Mr. Sill admitted to taking the beer and to throwing the rock.

Sill was booked on felony charges of Burglary and Theft and one misdemeanor charge of Criminal Damage to Property.

Cash bond in the case was set at $1,000.
