SALINE CO.— An Eldorado woman already serving a sentence for thieving has been charged with boosting body spray from Walmart.
Charging documents indicate that on September 4 at approximately 4:30 p.m., Harrisburg officer Nathan Moore was dispatched to the Harrisburg Walmart on a report of a shoplifter.
Upon his arrival Moore was informed that a female had taken items from the store without paying for them and had fled in a green van.
Store security in the form of Connor Pulliam gave Moore the registration number of the van, which led to Moore locating and executing a traffic stop on the vehicle several minutes later on Missouri Street, near Rte. 13.
Pulliam reported that he had witnessed the woman open several packages inside the store, remove the contents and then re-place the empty packages back on the shelves.
Once officer Moore had the vehicle stopped he identified the driver of the van as Josh Capps and his passenger as Adawnya D. Solomon, 23, of 1700 Burnett St., Eldorado.
A search of the vehicle turned up the suspected Walmart items, looking brand new and unused.
Those items included Eternity Body Spray, Nautica Body Spray, Real Bacon Bits and Alka Seltzer Plus.
It is unknown if Ms. Solomon has a body odor problem or indigestion from consuming pork products.
What is known is that the items, along with Ms. Solomon, were taken back to the store and a quick inventory showed the store short one item each of what was found to be in the possession of Solomon.
That, with a supporting statement from Capps that he observed Solomon shoving the items under her seat saying she was “stashing” them, led to her being taken into custody and booked into the county detention center on one count of Theft.
At the time of her arrest Solomon was serving a probation sentence of two years, handed her December 17, 2015, after she was convicted of Theft.
She was also ordered to pay $3,526 in fines and fees, of which she has paid nothing.
Cash bond in her most recent case was set at $1,000, which if she had could have gone to purchase a lot of body spray and antacid.
Kentuk thievery
In an unrelated story, a Kentucky man has been charged with one each felony and misdemeanor after hitting the Harrisburg Walmart, located at 710 South Commercial St.
Court documents allege that on August 9, Edward J. Shackelford, 53, of 111 Barcelona Ct., Paducah, Ky., committed the offense of Retail Theft after he walked out of the store without bothering to pay for miscellaneous merchandise valued in excess of $300.
Shackelford is also charged with Criminal Trespass for entering the Walmart after he had been given notice that his presence was forbidden.
As of press time for this issue (Sept. 18), he’d not been able to make bond and was set for an October 20 prelim.
