SALINE CO., Ill. - Saline County State's Attorney Jayson Clark has released information on a young man from upstate who was sentenced in court today in Saline County.

Clark said that earlier today (May 3, 2017), Sylvester Williams, 18, of Peoria, entered a plea of guilty in Saline County, Illinois Circuit Court to a Class 2 felony charge of Aggravated Battery. Judge Walden E. Morris sentenced Williams to 6 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, with 2 years of mandatory supervised release.

On March 9, 2017, the Saline County State’s Attorney’s Office filed charges against Williams. Those charges arose out of an incident in which it was alleged that Williams, an IYC-Harrisburg inmate, struck Travis Rathjen while Rathjen was working as a guard inside IYC-Harrisburg. The investigation of Williams’ case was led by Officer Ken Shires of the Harrisburg Police Department. Because Williams was 18 years old when he committed the offense, he was prosecuted in adult court by State’s Attorney Jayson Clark.
