SALINE CO.— A Harrisburg woman is facing a felony drug charge after police say she was slumped over in an alleyway in her vehicle.
Official reports indicate that on June 6 at 11:08 p.m. a call came into central dispatch from Kim Lightner reporting a female sitting in a red Jeep in the alleyway next to her property.
Lightner advised the female kept slumping over and could be intoxicated.
When officer Kenny Shires arrived on scene, he observed a red Jeep parked in an alleyway in front of a residence in the 100 block of West Lincoln.
The driver’s side door of the vehicle was open and Shires did not see anyone inside.
At about the time Shires exited his cruiser and began to approach the Jeep on foot, he spotted a blond-headed female sit up.
Shires said the female appeared to be sleepy and her hair was messy as if she had been asleep, and her eyes were bloodshot.
“I asked her her name and if she was okay,” Shires said. “She said her name was Kelly Butler and she had just had a bad day. She advised she was just tired.”
When Shires asked Butler for her driver’s license she leaned over into the passenger side floorboard and remained there for approximately 30-40 seconds before producing her identification.
Shires asked Butler if she had been drinking or taking medication.
She said she had not been drinking but that she takes prescription medication.
Butler was asked to step out of the Jeep.
Officer Tom Leverett arrived on scene for assistance and Butler was asked if she had any open alcohol or drugs in her Jeep and she said she did not.
When asked if she would give permission for officers to search her Jeep she said yes.
What happened next made her bad day even worse.
With the driver’s side searched and cleared of any illegal substances, Shires started searching the passenger’s side to include the floorboard where Butler had hovered for nearly a minute.
Shires found a pill bottle with the label partially removed.
The bottle contained eight white, oblong tablets and a small amount of cannabis.
“I asked Butler what the pills were and she said ‘Lortab,’” Shires said. “I asked if she had a prescription and she said ‘no.’”
Kelly Butler, 49, of 80 Brady St., Harrisburg, was taken into custody and charged with a single count of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance.
Cash bond in the case was set at $1,000.
