SALINE CO.— A Harrisburg convicted drug felon who, by all accounts is a nice person but just can’t seem to stay out of jail has been charged with felony drug offenses, again.
Information filed in the case alleges that Shanna R. Hinant, 46, formerly of Liberty St., Harrisburg, now of West Hendrickson St., Marion, was taken into custody on or about April 9 after she was found to have on her person less than five grams of meth and an unnamed amount of diazepam.
It appears the drug counts were added to Miss Hinant’s list of legal woes as the date the drugs were located on her person seem to be the same or the day before she was charged with Burglary and Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine for entering the garage of Cody Weaver, located at South Granger St., with intent to commit theft on or about April 10.
Her latest charges include Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance.
Hinant rose to criminal prominence June 20, 2015 when she was charged with Manufacture of Methamphetamine 100-400 grams, Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine 100-400 grams and Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine Manufacturing Material when she was caught that morning with Robert Shawn Jones, 47, of the 1500 block of West Madison St., Herrin, after the pair were caught at the bottom of Jenny Ridge Hill near the floodwaters allegedly cooking off a batch of meth.
Before that drug case could make its way through the court system, Hinant was convicted September 30, 2015 of three counts of Leaving the Scene of an Accident Causing Injury or Death, for which she was sentenced to probation for 30 months and ordered to pay $6,134.12, of which she still owes $3.159.12.
On February 2, 2017 the drug case was brought before the court and Hinant caught a break, pleading guilty to the meth manufacturing materials charge in return for the remainder of the charges being dismissed and a sentence of probation for 48 months and $7,622 in fines and fees, of which she still owes $3,692.
Mr. Jones didn’t catch such a break and was convicted of the possession of 100-400 grams of meth and sentenced to the Illinois Department of Corrections for seven years and ordered to pay $3,873 in fines and fees, of which he has paid nothing.
Her most recent charges include one count each of Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine and one count of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, identified as diazepam.
A letter to the judge in her case, dated April 12 asking for her bond to be reduced from $1,170, so she could continue rehab (which doesn’t seem to be working), was denied.
Now she has another $250 has been added to that.
Hinant claims on her affidavit of assets and liabilities to have worked for Service Master off and on and to be self-employed, doing yard work, landscaping and house cleaning.
She claims not to be working anywhere at the time of her most recent arrest and that her sole source of income was $1,150 Social Security for her son, which some would think would be enough to stay off the dope.
Hinant is expected back in court later this month.
There is no word on who is caring for her son while she sits in a county cage, again.
