SALINE CO.— Three from Harrisburg and one from Elizabethtown have been charged with drug possession.
Thanks in part to state’s attorney Jayson Clark, who did nothing to safeguard the public’s right to know general detailed information about allegations in the wake of arrests in Saline County, there is no way to know if the arrests, other than the date, are connected.
“How can we keep our kids away from unsavory people and locations if we are not allowed to read details in our local news?” asked one critic of the decision to remove arrest details from public files, which was a practice that the late Mike Henshaw, state’s attorney from 2008 until his untimely death in 2017, insisted upon.
According to information in the cases, on or about June 22 Kimberly D. Towns, 41, of P.O. Box 67, Rte. 2, Elizabethtown; Roger D. Cummins, 51, of 1010 Hwy 145 South, Harrisburg and Margaret R. Holt, 28, of 216 West State St., Harrisburg committed the offense of Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine after authorities say they were found to have less than five grams of the drug on their persons.
Melanie D. Malone, 39, of 410 Small St., Apt. 5, Harrisburg, was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance identified as dextroamphetamine, a stimulant used to treat ADHD and narcolepsy.
Holt was additionally charged with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, identified as lorazepam.
In her affidavit of assets and liabilities, Towns claimed to be an unemployed mother of two.
In his affidavit of assets and liabilities Cummins, claims to be a self-employed mechanic for the past nine years.
He was released from police custody June 28 after a $182 cash bond was posted on his behalf by James Cummins of the same 1010 Hwy 145 South, Harrisburg, address.
Holt, who listed herself in her affidavit of assets and liabilities as a single mother of two, was also charged with a single count of Retail Theft after authorities say she exchanged merchandise, that wasn’t hers, for $35.88.
At the time of her arrest Holt was awaiting trial in a December 28, 2016 case in which she is charged with Theft of Services.
Cash bond in her case was set at $300.
Malone, who on her affidavit of assets and liabilities lists herself as living at 731 Bramlet St., Eldorado, says she a disabled, unemployed and single.
Cash bond in her case was also set at $300.
The cases appear to be being prosecuted by assistant state’s attorney Myra Yelle, whose capabilities have come under question.
