SALINE CO., Ill.---A Galatia man has received a serious sentence following a plea in a shaking incident involving his infant daughter.

Colten Campbell, 22, of Galatia, was taken into custody on a Class X felony count of Aggravated Battery of a Child under the age of 13 causing permanent injury or disability on December 7, 2013, after it was reported that his then-four-month-old daughter, Aubrey, was found unresponsive after being left alone with Campbell.

The Child Death Investigations Task Force (CDITF) was assigned to handle the case; that group specializes in infant injuries as well as deaths. As it turned out, Campbell had shaken and had thrown the baby against a bed in frustration after she wouldn't stop being fussy while he was busy playing video games. Campbell had gone running out of the house when Aubrey became unresponsive due to her injuries, telling people he didn't know what was wrong with her; however, the CDITF found out the truth, and Campbell was charged. He was jailed at Saline County Detention Center, where he has been held since December 2013.

Last Friday, March 13, he was scheduled for a regular pretrial conference. However, he entered a plea in exchange for a 20-year sentence. Of that sentence, Campbell must serve 85 percent; he was also ordered to pay $642 in court costs.

We've not learned how Aubrey is doing; if we find out anything as a result of this post, we'll pass it along to you.
